Dorothy Conkey Clark, age 84, a beloved matriarch, peacefully departed this life on November 14, 2025, at the Pickering House. Born on June 21, 1941, in Lithopolis, Ohio, she was a radiant spirit whose warmth and humor touched the lives of many.
Dorothy dedicated her life to her family, serving as a devoted homemaker to her four daughters, Kathi Clark Crist, Anna (Phillip) Clark, Grace Clark, and Nancy Clark. She nurtured them with love, laughter, and an abundance of caring, instilling in them the values that would carry through generations. Dorothy was not just a mother; she was a loving wife to her late husband, William E. Clark, who preceded her in death. Her love story was one of companionship and unwavering support, and the bond they shared was a testament to her ability to forge deep connections with those she held dear.
As a grandmother, Dorothy's heart grew even fuller. Her light shone brightly through her grandchildren—Jimmy (Kylee) Crist, Billy (Roni) Crist Balconi, Jordan Clark, Austin (Olivia) Crist, and Shelby Henderly. They were the joy of her life, bringing laughter and happiness to her days. This joy extended further with the arrival of her great grandchildren, Connor Crist, Everly Crist, and Beau Crist, who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
Dorothy was a spirited and lively individual, known for her ornery, feisty personality and her delightful love of storytelling and humor. She had a particular talent for cracking jokes that could light up a room, a quality that endeared her to everyone she met. Dorothy had many interests, and she relished activities such as bingo, reading, and cheering passionately for her favorite teams—the Chicago Cubs and OSU. These passions defined her vibrant spirit and were a reflection of the simple pleasures she treasured in life.
Family gatherings were always filled with laughter and joy, a direct result of Dorothy's personality as the family’s matriarch. She will be missed by her siblings Janelle Lanning, Sharon Sue Lambert, Charlene Friesner, and Mary Jo Bailey. She touched the lives of countless individuals; her caring nature made her an important figure to many in her community.
Dorothy's departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alberta Cline Conkey, and her siblings: Gene Austin Conkey, Fred Lee Conkey, Donna Sue Carter, Janice Lanning, Lois Anne Rosser, Ottie Charlotte Givens, and John "Bo" Conkey. Each of these losses was felt deeply, yet the love they shared will live on in the stories told and the memories cherished.
Dorothy's legacy will be honored with a viewing onWednesday, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at noon at The Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St. Lancaster, Oh 43130 in Lancaster, Ohio concluding with her burial at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Though she has left this earthly plane, Dorothy Conkey Clark's spirit will forever illuminate the lives of her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, family, and friends. She will be dearly missed, but her love and laughter will resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
