Marcella Green

April 27, 1934 — August 2, 2025

Lancaster

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Marcella Green, age 91, of Lancaster, Ohio, who left us peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Born on April 27,1934 to Mary Elizabeth and Clarence David (C.D.) Thomas, she was a cherished daughter, devoted wife and mother and beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

She retired from the family business, Green’s Sewer and Septic Tank Services at the age of 84, a business she helped operate with her late husband Frank and their son Robert. She also worked as a private caregiver for many years in the Lancaster area.

She is survived by her 7 children: Sons Robert Green and Douglas Green both of Lancaster. Daughters Julie Eckert of Lancaster, Linda Dixon of Lithopolis, Paula Green of Dublin, Molly McGrath (Doug Reedy) of Thornville and Jenny Tatterson (Bronson) of Hilliard. 9 Grandchildren Chad Fox (Carol), Christina Boystel (Andy), Kevin McMillen, Kelly Benjamin (Matt), Joshua Green (Sherri), Adam McGrath (Jessica), Daniel McGrath and Kayla Aucreman. 9 Great-grandchildren, 2 Great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 50 years Frank M. Green, her sisters Ida Mae Farmer, Frances Springer, Freda Downs, Evon Steinman and Edna Shreyer, her brothers Paul Thomas and Ralph Thomas and her son-n-law Kevin Dixon.

Marcella was a longtime member of the Sixth Avenue Global Methodist Church, The Quota Club of Lancaster, The Lancaster Senior Music Club and many Collectors Clubs

A woman of many talents and passions, Marcella had a remarkable eye for decorating and a knack for collecting beautiful treasures. Her home reflected her meticulous and loving touch-every corner thoughtfully adorned. She was an avid shopper, amassing collections of dolls and Maud Humphry Figurines-cherished treasures she enjoyed sharing with her best friend, the late Sue Lewis.

Marcella was known for her striking red hair, a signature feature that made her stand out. Frank, whom she later married, told his mother about seeing the most beautiful redhead he had ever laid eyes on. That chance encounter blossomed into a lifelong love and partnership, and their bond was a testament to the power of love at first sight.

Music was a vital part of Marcella’s life. She played the piano with remarkable skill, a passion she nurtured from her youth. Every morning, she would sit at her piano and fill her home with melodies. She also instilled a love for music in her children, encouraging each to learn an instrument, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Marcella was affectionately known as the “Christmas Tree Queen” her holiday spirit was legendary, and her home was adorned with beautifully themed trees, each decorated with her characteristic meticulousness. The Eagle Gazette once featured her in an article celebrating her extraordinary holiday decorations, which she would perfect with patience and passion – redecorating until every detail was just right.

Born and raised on the corner of 8th and Pierce Ave, next to the family business, Marcella never moved far from her roots. Her lifelong connection to her neighborhood was a testament to her deep sense of community and home.

The Family wishes to Thank the following healthcare providers. To Dr. Neel Raya, who’s attentive and swift medical care saved her from major complications, to Fairhope Hospice for their care, and to the entire dedicated staff at The Springs at Wyandot Trails, where Marcella lived her final year surrounded by the most caring staff who truly loved her.

A heartfelt thank you also goes out to her long-time beautician and dear friend, Sue Smith, whose friendship and care kept her looking her best and brought joy to her life.

Marcella’s spirit was vibrant, her life full of spice and joy. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and beautiful decorated memories. She has now met her maker and is reunited with all those she loved – a glorious gathering beyond our reach.

We will miss her dearly, but we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, forever cherished and remembered.
